Residential Care Learning Pack

Synopsis
A video-based learning pack on residential care for the elderly and for people with learning difficulties.
1: Shows a day in the life of a local authority home for elderly people. Shows many of the details of the lives of the people who live and work there including meal times, residents relaxing in the lounges and in their own rooms, and a staff handover meeting. Residents, staff and the manager of the home talk about their experiences. The home has 47 residents, many of whom are highly dependent. The average age of the men is 79-80 and the women (in the majority) tend to be older. The home has 22 single rooms and the rest are doubles.
2: Shows a day in the life of a voluntary sector home for six people with learning and physical disabilities, focusing on the daily events in the lives of the people who live and work there. Residents and staff talk about their experiences and the running of the home.
3: Shows examples of relationships between staff and residents, and among the residents themselves. Also raises the issue of conflict. The intention is to provide examples of relationships in two very different client groups - the elderly and people with learning difficulties - who have different needs.
