Reproduction and Development in the Opossum

Synopsis
Shows the history and distribution of the opossum. The reproduction system - ovary, follicles, corpora lutea, oestrus cycles, sperm and sperm movement, gestation and lactation are described. Eggs and embryos at successive stages of development are shown as well as life in the uterus, embryonic membranes, respiration and nutrition. The birth of the young and their journey to the pouch, suckling, growth of limbs and hair and opening of the eyes is also shown. Discusses the opossum in biological and medical research; behaviour patterns, development of heart and blood circulation etc.
