Synopsis
Describes speech after laryngectomy; the acquisition and development of oesophageal voice. Gives details of speech aids (articifical larynges) and stome covers and shows patients using them. The problems encountered in the early post-operative period and the first year are discussed with laryngectomy patients. It also looks at the results obtained by speech therapy and outlines the reasons for success and failure in acquiring an oesophageal voice. Gives information about what is available for laryngectomy patients.
