Regressing to Quality

Synopsis
Shows how the statistical technique of regression analysis is used at three stages in the manufacture of steel pipes to manufacture North Sea oil by addressing the following questions: given the sulphur content of a batch of iron ore, what is the nimimum amount of magnesium needed to resuce the steel sulphur content to the required level? When heating slabe in a furnace, what amount of energy is saved, at what level of throughput, before and after the furnace is refurbished? Whay type of wire should be used when welding steel pipes, given the amount of carbon in the plate and the desired resulting weld carbon level?
