Battle of Lewes Road, The: Our History

Synopsis
Demonstrates the use of primary and secondary sources in historical research. The first part of the programme focuses on a number of eyewitness reports of the Battle of Lewes Road, a famous Brighton incident during the 1926 General Strike. Different viewpoints, both physical and political, result in a set of contradictory statements, calling into question the status of documentary ‘evidence’. There follows four Brightonians with very different personal histories who recall what they were doing at the time.
