Synopsis: Mathematical modelling has a major part to play in multi-disciplinary studies of natural world phenomena. This programme examines the survival rate of New Zealand’s Hector’s dolphins and the ‘beating heart’ of Lake Wakatipu. Also shows the intricate bamboo scaffolding used to build the skyscrapers of Hong Kong, as an example of mathematical ideas in the ‘designed’ world.
