10,000 Year Test, The

Synopsis
Scientists working in the Nevada desert attempt to predict the future for the next 10,000 years. The USA has chosen to bury all of its most lethal high-level radioactive waste under Yucca Mountain there, if it can be proved that the waste would cause no more than 1000 deaths over 10,000 years. This depends on working out the probability of everything that could happen to the mountain and the surrounding population. Possible indicators are desert pack rats, and rocks that ‘eat’ radioactivity.
