Battle of Arnhem, The: September 1944

Synopsis
An analysis of events leading up to the battle, of the actual fighting and of the factors responsible for the Allied defeat. Based on authentic film material, photos and sound recordings from British, German and Dutch sources, with film sequences showing the area as it is today and maps delineating military movements. This account, the outcome of scholarly research and thorough documentation, describes the key part of Field-Marshal Montgomery’s ‘market garden’ plan whereby all major river crossings in Holland were to be seized by the Allies in a single blow to prepare for the decisive thrust toward Berlin.
