- Synopsis
- Reports from the jungle of West Papua, the western half of New Guinea known as Irian Jaya to Indonesians, about armed tribal opposition to Indonesia’s military occupation. Indonesia, with World Bank support, has been attempting to relocate peasants from Java and Bali to West Papua and other outer islands; this transmigration and assimilation threatens to annihilate the tribal peoples. For 25 years the guerrillas, under their leader Bernard Mawen, have fought for an independent nation.
