Battle for Rickety Bridge, The

Synopsis
Looks at how older people, many of them with no past history of political activism, became involved in one of the great environmental battles of the 1990s. Concentrates on an episode in the protracted civil and political against the Newbury bypass, which took place at Rickety Bridge, a wooded island on a river. There, young dissenters were joined in defiance of police and security personnel by many older people. The programme was made in collaboration with Age Concern (England) and other partners whose interest was to combat ageism.
