Synopsis
Discusses the possible effects on man and the environment of the release of radioactive wastes and explains the principles underlying safe disposal of such wastes. Shows procedures used in Imperial College for dealing with both high- and low-activity waste, and methods suitable for disposal of solid, liquid and gaseous forms are described. Introduces an important aspect of work with radioactive materials, but it is only intended as a supplement to practical training. Although the practical examples shown are from Imperial College, London, all are either standard procedures or are based on standard principles so that the tape will be useful in the training of workers in other establishments. Updated version of 1986 programme to include changes in HMIP.
