Radar Ornithology

Synopsis
Part 1 (1963): A film about starlines made for the Granada Television series ANOTHER WORLD. In 1963 Douglas Fisher was filming starling roosts near Colchester when he heard that Dr Eastwood and members of his team at the Marconi Research Laboratories were recording the movements of birds using time-lapse photography at their 23cm radar station at Bushey Hill near Chelmsford. It transpired that both were filming the same starling roosts. The films were subsequently combined and the result is a sequence in this film.
Part 2 (1958). A Marconi research film from Dr Eastwood, recorded using ‘time-lapse photography’ from PPI (plan position indicator) and CRT displays at the 23cm Marconi radar station at Bushy Hill, Essex, during August 1958.
