Race in the Inner City

Synopsis
A talk by John Rex, Professor of Sociology, University of Warwick, who has studied racial problems in the inner city of Birmingham for 15 years. Professor Rex argues that racial conflict can emerge where groups are competing for housing or where social policies result in certain groups clustering in particular areas thus transforming their character. Racial conflict, he contends, will not disappear by making the city beautiful; what is needed is positive educational and social policies.
