Race Against Prime Time

Synopsis
Looks at the network and local television news reporting of racial conflict in Miami in 1980, following the acquittal by an all white jury of four Miami police officers on all charges related to the beating to death of a black man, Arthur McDuffie. Looks at how the news coverage was constructed and sets this against questions of historical background, news selection processes, who elects ‘community spokesmen’, and who does or does not get represented by news stories.
