Quechua, The

Synopsis
Set in the southern Peruvian Andes, the film deals with a community of peasant agriculturalists who farm land between 12,000 and 14,000 feet above sea level, and concentrates mainly on a single family. The first part depicts one of the community’s annual religious pilgrimages and illustrates the syncretism of Roman Catholic and local religious traditions. The second part is concerned with various aspects of community life, including a fertility rite for sheep and the attempts by certain members to procure Government assistance for a motor road to the village. *RAI
