Quality in Practice

Synopsis
Looks at two different but complementary approaches to quality in business. Emphasises the practical aspects of implementing a quality system and features interviews with the management and staff of four organisations which have successfully developed their own systems.
1: Even though the marketing advantages of the quality assurance standard BS 4740 are well known, many businesses have been harmed by their experiences. Looks at organisations’ experiences of gaining BS 5750 and what it has meant to their staff, their competitiveness and their daily activities.
2: Looks at two organisations, Ilford and Rover, that have taken their commitment to quality beyond the standard. Both have found, however, that a system alone is not enough; each has evolved an approach to quality that combines the strength of their systems and technology with those of their people. The video discusses how continuous improvement can be developed from team working, the role for training, empowering the workforce, working to please the customer, and problems with total quality management.
