Pure Theory of International Trade: A Community Indifference Map

Synopsis
The mathematical and graphical analysis of the pattern and composition of international trade and the gains from trading in the modern world have been difficult to teach with conventional resources. The first of six programmes starts with an examination of the optimisation decisions of a single consumer and a single industry and successively generalises the situation to that of individual countries trading internationally. The programmes exploit the power of video animation to direct the students’ attention in synchronism with the commentary. (Geometry and simple algebra are used as the main mode of exposition: hence no in-depth knowledge of mathematics is required.)
