Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998, The
- Synopsis
- The Public Interest Disclosure Act 1998, described as the most far-reaching whistle-blower protection law in the world, became law on 2 July 1999. It sets out a clear framework for raising genuine concerns about malpractice and guarantees full protection to workers who raise such issues responsibly. The programme explains the scope of malpractice covered by the Act and discusses the definition of ‘qualifying disclosure’. Guy Dehn of the charity Public Concern at Work and Stephen Levinson of Paisner & Co advise on how the Act provides for the protection of workers making disclosures and the conditions that must be satisfied for workers to qualify for protection.
