Product Design: Why Materials Matter

Synopsis
Follows a company’s progress in making the choice of material to suit a particular design, using as a case study a company that makes cellular telephones. The key design problem is to package the electronics in a small, attractive, lightweight, heat-resistant casing that can screen out outside electrical interference and meet international regulations. Looks at how the firm considers several options, settling on magnesium.
