Basic Properties of Skeletal and Cardiac Muscle

Synopsis
Introduces a series of experiments that demonstrate some of the similarities and differences of skeletal and cardiac muscle. Demonstrates the basic properties of skeletal and cardiac muscle using traces from laboratory preparations of the frog leg and heart intercut with graphics and close-ups of the traces. The differences in the behaviour of the different muscles are intimately related to the differing physiological roles of the two types of muscle.
