Synopsis
Aims to apprise the student of the thoroughness needed to conduct a useful examination and the sensitivity required to assess the patient’s responses to tests. Gives a general assessment of the patient, appreciation of his/her mental state and level of consciousness. Examination proceeds by system - ocular, olfactory, auditory etc., leading to tests of sensation, speech, co-ordination of movement, joint position sense and other basic indicators of function.
