Prevention of Corrosion in Chemical Process Plant

Synopsis: Stainless steels for chemical plant contain Cr, Ni, Mo, Zr, Ta, Nb or Ti which form thin passive corrosion-resistant oxide films, the choice depending on chemical, physical and economic factors without imparing safety. Fabrication, welding, stressing, oxygen-starvation, crevice shielding, e.g. by sludge or scale, may destroy the film or prevent regeneration by oxygen.
