Porta-Cavala Anastomosis in the Treatment of Portal Hypertension

Synopsis
Diagrams and x-rays illustrate the causes of portal hypertension and the indications for surgery. A patient with portal obstruction due to cirrhosis of the liver is chosen to undergo porta-caval anastomosis. The instruments required and the pre-operative procedures are shown, including portal venograms and splenic venography. The operation is then demonstrated. Concludes with post-operative requirements, tables of mortality and complications.
