Synopsis
Part 1: Douglas Dunn reads his poems to a mixed-age audience at a community school on a deprived housing estate outside Edinburgh. An account of Dunn’s background is illustrated by stills of places associated with his early life.
Part 2: Norman MacCaig reads his poems to an audience at the Saltire Society, Edinburgh. Biographical material is illustrated by stills of places which have influenced his work and attitude.
Part 3: Tony Harrison reads his poetry to a student audience in his own city of Leeds. The readings emphasise his concern for equal validity of regional dialect English with standard English for the writing of poetry.
