Playgrounds of Prejudice

Synopsis
Looks at patterns of power and prejudice enacted in playground play. Uses an an incident involving two boys, one Irish and the other black, to explore some of the issues that arise when schools try to frame policy and practice around radical harrassment. Interviews with parents, students, playground and teaching staff illustrate a range of different readings of the situation. Elinor Kelly draws on her research on bullying and racial harassment to argue for more sensitive strategies for tackling the problem.
