Plastic Injection Molding

Synopsis
Looks at the most common method of producing parts from plastic material. Explains the properties inherent in plastic itself and focuses on two of the four primary elements that influence the plastic injection-moulding process: the injection machine and the mould. Looks in detail at the workings of the injection system and the clamping system. Follows plastic material step-by-step from raw material through the melting process and on to its injection in the mould. Explains key terms such as drag flow, packing pressure and clamp tonnage and illustrates the most common mould types. Discusses proper cooling and how the efficiency of this system influences shrinkage, part strength, and the speed of the injection moulding cycle.
