Synopsis
A study of the French post-impressionist painter Pierre Bonnard (1867-1947) exploring the rooms of the house where he lived for many years with his wife and model, seen in many of his paintings. Reveals him as an experimenter in colour, the inventor of a painterly form of poetry. Shows the only existing footage of Bonnard, shot during a boating outing in the 1940s. Examines the friendship and influence of fellow artists including Gauguin, Cézanne, Seurat, Renoir and Matisse.
