Abc of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Synopsis
Shows the layman how to resuscitate someone who has just stopped breathing and whose heart may have stopped as well. Shows what happens when we breathe and when we stop breathing and the various ways in which we can be deprived of oxygen. Demonstrates how to open and clear the airway (using a live casualty) and of mouth-to-mouth and mouth-to-nose ventilation (using a training manikin). Reconstructs ‘real-life’ examples involving a near-drowned swimmer, a woman trapped in smoke and a child wearing a polythene bag: these demonstrate the general procedure and the need to act fast without panicking. Demonstrates external chest compression linked with a reconstructed ‘real-life’ example of an electrocution casualty.
