- An interactive tutorial on the pathophysiology and pharmacology of inflammation. Covers 1) the main elements, major cardinal signs and timescale of the processes involved in the inflammatory response; 2) the microcirculation; 3) inflammatory mediators: the synthesis, site and mechanism of action of histamine, bradykinin, nitric oxide, eicosanoids, neuropeptides and cytokines; 4) cell accumulation: molecular mechanisms involved in neutrophil accumulation at the site of injury, adherence, margination and extravasation; 5) mechanisms of tissue repair and healing; 6) the pharmacology (names, structure, mechanisms of action and toxicity) of steroidal and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and the disease-modifying anti-arthritic drugs. Approximately 2 hours of teaching material.
