Banking, Money and Machines

Synopsis
All aspects of banking and finance have been affected by the advent of information technology. Some of this technology is user friendly and is available to the public through high street banking. However, the type of instant information that is provided for the global financial markets is only available to an elite group of market makers who can afford the technology. Looks at one branch of the main banks that has developed a new concept in high street banking using technology. The second part of the programme examines the foreign exchange market, and show the extent to which the market makers have come to depend on technology provided by companies such as Reuters, and the effects of that technology on the market.

Notes
NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
