Perception and Communication. Part 2: Context

Subtitle
Context
Synopsis
Our interpretation of any item we are paying attention to may be affected by the context without our being aware of it. We tend to take things in ‘as a whole’, it is difficult to see any one part except in relation to other things seen at the same time. Words may influence what we remember about seeing quite simple shapes and objects. They may also lead us to select quite different things as significant when looking at a complex picture. Other people can help us to see things as they have seen them. This can help us to make order out of chaos or to see new aspects of familiar data. So assumptions interact with context; just as assumptions may help or hinder us to see and communicate, so also does the context.
