Balthus the Painter

Synopsis
Profile of the painter Balthus (Count Balthasar Klossowski de Rola), born in Paris in 1908. Chronicles his life and traces the themes and motifs which recur in his work: young girls, knowing cats, spare interiors and shadowy landscapes. At age 88 at his home in Switzerland he talks about his inspirations, his subject matter and the modern world. Includes contributions from family and friends including Thadee Klossowski; Jean Clair, the director of the Musée Picasso in Paris; and a former child model.
