- Synopsis
- About antibiotics, what they are, how they work, and how they can beimproved. Ever since Sir Alexander Fleming discovered the antibiotic characteristics of the penicillin fungus, the drug industry has been looking for similar antibiotics which will kill a much broader range of pathogenic bacteria. Looks at two recent discoveries which are world leaders: one made by Glaxo in the UK and the other by Merck, Sharp & Dohme in the USA. It focuses on the details of how research chemists go about discovering and refining such compounds.
