Synopsis
Documents the joint US-German programme to explore the vicinity of the sun, which culminated in the launching of the spacecraft Helios to orbit the sun. On 15 March 1975 it approached to within 28 million miles and obtained the first-ever detailed measurements of the surface and the solar wind. Also discusses the influence of the sun or earth.
