Pancreatic Secretion
- Synopsis
- Describes the chief mechanisms concerned in the stimulation of pancreatic secretion by a meal, as illustrated by experiments on anaesthetised or conscious dogs. The anatomy of the dog’s pancreas is demonstrated. An animated sequence shows the intra-cellular changes which occur during secretion, and time-lapse microcinephotography shows the disappearance of zymogen granules from the cells during secretion in the living mouse pancreas. De Graaf’s method, and the modern methods of collecting pancreatic juice from a conscious dog are shown. Pancreatic secretion by vagal stimulation or the introduction of acid into the duodenum is shown to be due to the liberation of a hormone. The preparation of secretin is demonstrated, and finally, an experiment illustrating the action of the hormone pancreozymin is shown.
