- The rescue at St Peter Port of a Roman merchantman. The vessel is a sailing ship of the 2nd century AD, built in the Celtic tradition and capable of carrying pottery, grain and pitch across the Channel from Europe to Britain. It caught fire shortly before it reached harbour.
