Back to Square One

Synopsis
Looks at the problems facing disabled stroke victims - in particular dysphasia and hemiplegia. Interviews reveal the traumatic effect on both patient and family of the sudden onset of this condition following an unexpected stroke. The work of the Kingdon-Ward Dysphasics Unit in London is featured centrally in the film. Six patients of very different backgrounds and at different stages of recovery, illustrate the severity of this disability and what this sort of therapy can help them to achieve. Also mentions practical issues such as insurance cover, and how stroke victims can be reintroduced to some sort of normal, working life.
