Only a Film: Hazards to Patients in Operating Theatres
- Subtitle
- Hazards to patients in operating theatres
- Synopsis
- During a busy operating list a series of events happen which place patients at risk. A change in the order of the list causes confusion and haste, resulting in a near disaster. In the form of a dramatised reconstruction, the film shows a number of incidents, all of which would have been avoided had the correct procedures been followed. The incidents are not over-emphasised, so that staff watching the film are placed in the position of discovering what they are and why they happened. The film aims to illustrate some of the potential hazards in operating theatres and to encourage meticulous observation of the recommendations designed for patient safety.
