Synopsis
Beginning with archival film of the first human submersible (William Beebe’s bathysphere), shows how oceanographers gain a picture of the ocean floor. Shows modern submersibles, remotely operated vehicles using sound (solar ranging), computer imaging processing and remote sensing from satellites. Reveals the terrain of volcanic ridges, huge volcanoes and seamounts, hot springs and vast abyssal plains.
