Nuclear Wasteland, The

Synopsis
In the wake of the disaster at Chernobyl, Britain’s own nuclear industry is under renewed examination. The country’s secret weapons factories are scrutinised and controversial findings about the civil atomic energy programme are revealed. Radioactivity levels on farmland near Sellafield were found to be more than 100 times normal and the leukaemia rate of children in the area was ten times the national average. What is the truth about the nuclear fuel industry and about the movement of H bombs on Britain’s roads? After the first television screening of this programme, the Government set up an inquiry into the Sellafield allegations and the plant’s operators announced a £150m programme to cut radioactive discharges.
