North Sea 3: Reservoirs
- Synopsis
- Analyses of four of the major hydrocarbon reservoirs in the North Sea, speciffically investigating the geological factors that led to their formation. The reservoirs are 1) The Rotliegend, located in Parmian desert sandstone facies. The trap is provided by overlying salt deposits laid down when the desert was flooded. The source rock is the Westphalian coal. 2) The Brent: Analysis of well cores and comparison with footage of the Rhone shows the depositional environment and reservoir facies. 3) The Brae: A classic example of syntectonic sedimentation. Understanding of a submarine regime is enhanced by examining a similar depositional environment on-shore in the Helmsdale area of Scotland. The chalk, whis was assumed to be unsuitable as a hydrocarbon reservoir, yet a major field, Ecofish, is in chalk.

At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
