Norfolk Broads: Conservation V. Commercialism

Alternative title
Norfolk Broads, The: No Easy Answers
Synopsis
Shows some of the practical ways in which the Broads Authority is improving the ecology of the open water, preserving the banks, and managing the landscape of Britain’s largest wetland. Features the biomanipulation of Ormesby Broad, where almost a million fish have been removed to allow the devastated population of water fleas to recover and clear the water of floating algae. Shows how more ecofriendly electric boats with low-wash hull designs and coconut matting are helping to preserve the banks and surrounding grazing marshes. Also looks at how the medieval origins of the broads, and the natural succession of plants that followed, are being studied by digging ‘turf ponds’, to help ecologists maintain the wetland.

Notes
NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
