Never Mind the Quality?

Synopsis
The worlds of television, computers and telecommunications are intersecting. There are new ways of making programmes, and new ways of delivering them through digital technology. In a few years, television as we know it will cease to exist; the proliferation of channels means that hundreds of channels are now available. The potential of the multi-channel age for direct selling is already being tested: Videonet is a video and shopping-on-demand service that comes down a phone line, and goods can be purchased immediately via the television. But there may be less futuristic ways of developing the new technology: a group of protesters in a forest in Kent are harnessing digital technology to help save a forest. Using the Internet to publicise their protest, they take control of the media in a democratic way.

Notes
NB. As of May 2016 Open University Worldwide are no longer distributing DVDs. They have posted this message on their website: ‘Unfortunately Open University Worldwide Limited has decided that product sales are no longer viable given the reduced funding to Higher Education institutions and diminishing demand for the products we have traditionally stocked. At present the Open University Students Association (OUSA) will continue to sell the "Good Study Guide", and we are in discussion with other possible distributors to continue to make The Open University’s products available for purchase. As soon as we have any information on other channels of distribution we will update this notice’. Some products are still available via second hand dealers on Amazon.co.uk
