Networking Moving Images
- Synopsis
- A series of interviews and demonstrations documenting the development of ideas behind a one-year joint pilot project designed to test the delivery of moving images via computer networks to UK universities. The partners in the project - the British Film Institute, the British Universities Film & Video Council and the Joint Information Systems Committee of the Higher Education Funding Councils - worked with two pilot sites, the University of Glasgow Performing Arts Data service testing high-end media server technology, and the University of Glamorgan using low-cost servers and Microsoft server solutions. Work started on the project in the autumn of 1997, and streaming of content and metadata continued until July 1999. In September 1999 a report was published to JISC’s Committee on Electronic Information. The material is also available on webdisk which carries the moving images full screen and each section can be accessed from a menu. Hot links on the disk access relevant sites on the internet.
