Nerve Physiology

Synopsis
A computer simulation of experiments which can be performed on the frog sciatic nerve to illustrate the important properties of nerves. The program provides an alternative to the use of live animals in teaching. The program is menu-driven and produces high-resolution simulations of nerve compound action potentials (using actual experimental data) which are displayed on the monitor screen and from which students can take measurements. Each experiment is prefaced by introductory text, and instructions and student assignments are included. Experiments include stimulus-voltage response relationships, refractory period, conduction velocity, effects of temperature and effects of local anaesthetics.
