Avebury Education Project

Synopsis
Describes a project involving Southampton University, Department of Archaeology, the Manpower Services Commission, King Alfred’s College, Winchester and local primary schools to introduce the children to the ideas and practice of archaeology; background work was undertaken in the schools and then the children were taken on field trips to Avebury and Windmill Hill; the project ended with a ‘Neolithic’ day, where the children discovered at first-hand what it would have been like to live as early man.
