Nature’s Numbers

Synopsis
Looks at a new strategy being practised by Conservation International which takes a more pragmatic approach than previously to the problems of disappearing species. A ‘rapid assessment’ team goes into the Bolivian rainforest to assess which species are now missing and to protect critical habitats. Predictions for the world’s biodiversity are now being challenged and we do not know, for example if we will really lose a quarter of all species in five years, how many species actually exist, and whether rainforest grows back.
