Muslims in Britain

Synopsis
Muslim families have been living in Britain for hundreds of years. Many of today’s Muslim communities first came to Britain after the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 with large-scale Muslim immigration to Britain starting in the early 1950s. Islamic communities have integrated into British society while retaining their own distinct cultural identity. This programme looks at how Britain’s Muslims feel about their role in British society and how they view the future for their community.
