Synopsis
A collection of film material held in the National Film and Television archive. Contents: 1) RECORDS OF FAMOUS MUSIC HALL ARTISTS (4 min): a composite silent film of surviving fragmentary newsreel glimpses of May Moore Duprez, Will Evans, Marie Lloyd, Lorna and Toots Pounds and Vesta Tilley; 2) WILL FYFFE (4 min): part routine and song, ‘I’m 94 today’; 3) ELLA SHIELDS (2 min): sings ‘Burlington Bertie from Bow’; 4) GUS ELEN (3 min): sings ‘It’s a great big shame’ - studio performance; 5) GEORGE ROBEY (3 min): dressing room scene (silent) followed by a sketch and song, ‘Fist time I’ve ever seen that’; 6) ARTHUR LUCAN (7 min): plays ‘Old Mother Riley’ in the sketch ‘Bridget’s night out’; 7) WILSON, KEPPEL AND BETTY (3 min): perform ‘Cleopatra’s Nightmare’ and sand dance routine; 8) THE VICTORIA GIRLS (5 min): two typical routines of the late 1920s.*
