Synopsis

Gives an impression of six theatre groups that are professionally involved with puppet theatre. By showing individual portraits of these six groups, the film traces a path which leads from small scale puppet theatres to ‘object’ theatres and ‘visual’ theatres. They have in common that they all in their own way bring inanimate objects to life. The theatre makers all share a special relationship with the visual arts, and these six portraits give an insight into the genre through observation and dialogue. The film introduces each theatre group with scenes from their performances and shows them preparing for their respective performances.
